Description

Big Lake is a scenic lake that has an interesting murder mystery in its history. The 1920s brought people from diverse walks of life to the area. There were several summer estates and some small cabins for summer rentals. Those who lived year-round on the lake were caretakers for the wealthy estates, hunting and fishing guides, trappers, and some moonshiners. One winter night, guide and moonshiner, Mr. Powers, was killed. Was it murder? Was it self-defense? Join Kay Krans, Manitowish Waters Historical Society historian, along with a Discovery Center naturalist, as we tour the important sites of this story by pontoon. Pack binoculars, water, snacks, bug repellent, sunscreen and a lunch. Space is limited, so please register early; $60 ($55 members of the NLDC or MWHS). Register at the North Lakeland Discovery Center (www.discoverycenter.net). For more information, contact the NLDC (715-543-2085 or at contact@discoverycenter.net). Registration will be open early-to-mid March
